"Men In The City" series
A series of pencil and charcoal drawings on paper, as an Angeleno spoof of Robert Longo’s “Men in the City” series. Whereas Longo’s 80’s drawings show yuppies in strange, twisted poses, the “real” men in cities are skaters, depicted mid-flight, their skateboards removed to emphasize their body positioning as they hover in space. Drawings of empty pools and skate ramps play on the stereotype of California sun and pools, but these are used as skating locations rather than as a backyard oasis.
A series of similar color images were done with crayons on raw canvas while on a Fulbright Scholarship for Painting in Rio de Janeiro in 1997.
